About Us

So, what’s with the logo?

Our logo can be interpreted in many ways.
For us, we wanted to create something strong and that reflected not only what we do, but what we love.

Our icon is supposed to represent growth, or a gradual build towards a goal or dream. It is also signifies a breeze or satisfaction once that dream has been achieved.

It combines our love of nature and the outdoors. As per a lot of our images on this site.

Looking closely you should see a snowy mountain, at the same time you might also see sails or a boat – blasting away under spinnaker.

Coincidence or clever?

Our Principal and Director, Jason Smyth, is a highly accomplished and dedicated mortgage broker, renowned for his practical and personal approach in assisting his clients achieving their financial goals and dreams.

Smyth Loan Co was established by Jason in 2023, after 10 years of loan writing through the Mortgage and Finance Association of Australia (MFAA) for companies including Bennetto Finance and Tassie Home Loans. He had also previously been employed by the likes of Commonwealth Bank of Australia, MyState Bank (formerly islandState Credit Union), and The Home Loan Shop over an 8 year period.

Jason has established himself as an elite broker within the Australian mortgage industry, being a top 100 performer within the Professional Lenders Association Network of Australia (PLAN Australia) – now Loan Market Group.

Completing his Diploma of Finance and Mortgage Broking Management in 2013, Jason’s finance career commenced many years earlier whilst studying Commerce at the University of Tasmania in 2004.

Outside of Smyth Loan Co, Jason has several interests including sailing, hiking, and travelling, with a general love of anything outdoors and the ocean. He has previously been associated with several sporting clubs where he played Australian Rules Football, Cricket, and Basketball. Jason is also currently the Treasurer of Lauderdale Yacht Club, a place dear to his heart and a position he has held for several years.

Jason takes pride in assisting others with their lending needs and is very approachable for those seeking advice.

The Best Interests Duty (BID) legislation requires mortgage brokers to prioritise your needs and preferences above their own financial interests when recommending a home loan. 🏡 This means they must act in your best interests, ensuring you receive tailored advice that suits your unique circumstances!

In contrast, if you approach a bank directly for a loan, you lack the same legal protections. Lenders will present only their own products, with no obligation to guarantee the best possible outcome for you when compared to other lenders.

So, if you want personalised advice and a broader range of options, consider working with a mortgage broker. Give us a call today to discuss your options!
